Backertag 14 Nachexen to Bezahltag 15 Nachexen
The heroes searched the warehouse, and found little, except some arrows in quivers. It was what they did not find that alarmed them. When Kadfina and Andred returned to the basement of the building, the woman Kadfina had slain was no longer there. Instead, in her place was her lopped off arm, and a few empty bottles. Andred later discovered that they probably held healing magic, when foolishly drinking one himself.
The two heroes searched the room, looking for trace of the woman. Andred spotted blood on the bookshelf, and after Kadfina attempted to move the shelves, they saw that there was a tunnel behind them. Andred chopped down the shelves and the two ran through the tunnel, exiting on the banks of the Reik River. Andred followed the tracks down to the water, where they disappeared. He searched the banks of the river but could see no evidence of her coming back to shore. With the coldness of the water, the loss of the arm, and the distance to the far shore, Andred and Kadfina assumed that the woman was dead, floating downstream.
The heroes briefly discuss their next action, before Andred and Kadfina alert the watch to what they have found. The watch, and then a contingent of witch-hunters viewed the physical evidence, before burning down the warehouse. Cold, wet and wounded, the heroes walked back to Lord Frederick’s estate.
The next morning a message from Sister Robans informs them that Gottri Hammerfist has been taken to a Sigmarite run asylum a few hours beyond Altdorf, for recuperation. Congratulating themselves, they write a brief note to Lord Messner, then Andred, Detlef and Kadfina make their way to the Temple of Shallya for healing. As a result of their perfunctory prayers, the priestess is unable to heal the group. The heroes then head to the Amethyst College to meet with Gabrielle Marsner. She is unavailable, so the heroes relax amongst the tombstones, waiting for her to return. Detlef takes the time to visit a doctor, who provides more reliable care than the fickle goddess of mercy.
When they finally manage to meet with Gabrielle Marsner, she advises that she is only in the early stages of research, and that she would not expect any results quickly.
The heroes return to Lord Frederick’s house, where they find Lord Magister Messner awaiting them. Upon receiving their note, he immediately made his way to Lord Frederick’s estate. From there he filled Gard in on his future movements, warned him of the dangers of the dagger and how the lead case would go some way to dampening the chaotic effects of the cursed artefact. When the heroes returned from the city, they held a long conversation about how they might destroy the dagger. It quickly became clear that none of the heroes were willing to sacrifice themselves to destroy the dagger. For some it was concern that they might not be strong enough to defeat the demon. For others it was an unwillingness to give up their lives, and for others they were unsure whether they had fully explored all of the options.
Lord Messner advised them that he would be leaving for the north, as would many of his contemporaries, to support the ongoing war against Archaon’s forces holed up in the Middle Mountains. He further advised that it would be dangerous to keep the dagger out of the protection of the Light College for an extended period. He was providing them the dagger because he knew they had a plan for its destruction. If the heroes did not intend to destroy the dagger immediately, he was unsure about leaving it with them. In the end he agreed to allow them to retain the dagger, and advised them to return the dagger to Magister Wiegand in the Light College, should they be unwilling to destroy it immediately.
The heroes discussed potentially leaving the dagger with Gabrielle Marsner, to aid her research in its destruction, and Lord Messner advised them that there was an agreement between the colleges that the Light College would, wherever possible, retain for safekeeping, potential chaos artefacts, and that there was a risk that should the amethyst college discover the artefact, it would be returned to the Light College. In Lord Messner’s absence, it would not be returned to the heroes.
The heroes wondered when Lord Messner might return from the North. He was unsure, howev3er he considered it would be at least a month, and likely more.
At that point he left, advising them to lock the dagger up in a safe. The heroes continued to discuss their options.
