Backertag 14 Nachexen
Gottri entered the room and began to graciously thank his hosts, when he spotted the heroes. He immediately demanded to know, in Khazalid, what they were doing there. Kadfina and Gottri had a brief conversation where Gottri was alarmed that this meeting had been sprung upon him. Kadfina noticed that Sister Robans seemed to be following some of their conversation.
Finally, unhappily, Gottri returned to speaking Reikspiel and apologised. After a very guarded conversation, Gottri again slipped back into Khazalid and began to criticise Kadfina. He then apologised to everyone and left.
The heroes had failed to secure clear proof of Gottri’s insanity, but Sister Robans had understood enough of the conversation between the two dwarfs to indicate that she also had some concerns that needed to be followed up. The Sister advised that she would advise the Holy Order of the Templars of Sigmar (the Sigmarite Witch Hunters) to embrace Gottri and seek further details of his issues with Wizards.
Sister Robans left, and Lady Baern asked to speak to Lord Fredericks about other matters, so the heroes withdrew. They readied themselves to return to the Three Beards Tavern, and did so, walking through the rain, only getting lost once. Once within its walls, they spoke to Wolfgang, who, as agreed, took them to where he had delivered the woman (who was trying to kill them) the night before. Before taking their leave, Kadfina advised she may be looking for work in the future. Wolfgang informed her that if he was in Altdorf, she should ask for Wolfgang’s Hounds.
It appeared as though the woman was staying in an old warehouse in one of the poorer areas of the city. Andred sneaked around the building, and found some windows boarded up at the back. He carefully pulled the boards away, but couldn’t see in. Kadfina looked in and saw that it was empty, with some stairs going down into the ground. After purposefully making a noise, she heard a voice on the floor above. After some quick planning, Gard watched the front doors, while Andred and Detlef heaved Kadfina through the window. Kadfina crashed to the floor and the guards up above noticed. Looking around the room, she saw stairs in the back corner of the room headed up to the floor above, unobservable from the window. Thinking herself unobserved, she crept down the first set of stairs, into the earth, and saw a flimsy door. There was light shining from the room. Kadfina crept back upstairs, as stealthy as a dwarf, as Detlef climbed through the window.
That was when the guards from above lifted the trapdoor and climbed down the stairs. Detlef charged the stairs, attempting to hold them on the stairs. He was successful at first, until those trapped behind the first guard, slid through and under gaps in the bannister. Detlef fought well, though outnumbered 3 against 1, while Kadfina charged down the stairs and shouldered the door open.
Inside the basement room was the woman who had tried to kill them. There seemed to be an altar or something set up there. On a table was a severed head, and on the wall behind, horrific runes inscribed in blood.
The woman was shocked to see Kadfina there, and quickly grabbed a weapon. Kadfina and the woman fought, for a few quick seconds, with both taking wounds, before Kadfina secured a Grimnir’s fury and lopped off the woman’s arm, burying her axe into the woman’s side.
As they woman lay dying on the floor, Kadfina ran back upstairs, where Detlef was sorely injured. He had managed to cause two of the guards to flee but four others surrounded him. Andred began to fire into the fray, and Gard, overhearing the combat, cautiously peered through the front doors.
Kadfina, waving her bloody axe, yelled at the guards that their mistress was dead. Two of the men surrendered, with the other two choosing to fight on. A quick arrow to the shoulder from Andred, made one of them change his mind, and with that the last surrendered. Kadfina extorted the last of his coin, and then the guards left, leaving their one comrade who had died, lying on the ground next to the stairs.
Tired, wet, hungry, wounded, and in one case ill, the heroes ponder their next actions.
