Awakening to a large breakfast, the heroes debated what to do next.
With both Andred and Kadfina still heavily injured, a trip to the Temple of Shallya was a given, but after the Doctor advised Andred to get more bed rest, and with Gard still struck down with ‘Rumsters Revenge’, Detlef and Kadfina set off into the city on their own.
Whilst lost in the back streets of Altdorf the two heroes come across a makeshift tollway guarded by three gang members. Kadfina refuses to pay, or back down, and with series of rapid attacks forces the gang members to flee.
Shallya looks fondly upon Kadfina, and feeling particularly restored, the two heroes return to Lord Fredericks Townhouse. There they find Gard still too unwell to move, but they convince Andred to leave his bed, and they set off to meet Gottri Hammerfist. Upon meeting the Dwarven Witchhunter, the heroes explain that they have sought Gottri out to discuss how to best slay Daemons and destroy Chaos artefacts. With the introductions from Lady Baern and Klara Robans, and with their tales of the Daemon’s they have faced, Gottri sees something in them and takes them into his confidence.
Konrad Messner, he informs them, is the head of an empire wide conspiracy being run by the colleges of magic, and in particular the Light College, to kill the emperor, overthrow the elector counts and allow wizards (and therefore Chaos worshippers) to run the empire. He suggests they work together to keep an eye on Magister Lord Messner. The heroes ask Gottri for the proof that he has, and he tells them, that in addition to the fact that they are wizards, Grungni (the Dwarven God) has been whispering these truths to him every night for the past few months.
The heroes thank Gottri for his time, and promise to get back to him about his proposed plans for taking down Lord Messner. Once safely away from the dwarf, Kadfina loudly proclaims, “He’s crazy!” With a plan forming to potentially expose the Dwarven Witchhunter’s madness, the heroes make their way back to Lord Frederick’s estate.
As they pass through a busy marketplace, for no reason at all, a shopper suddenly picks up a leg of mutton and swings it at Andred’s head. The heroes are at a loss, but act to try and hold back a small group of frenzied Altdorfer’s who for some reason have decided to attack them. Detlef and Kadfina try to minmise the damage he causes, but Andred feels no such constraint, drawing his weapons and swinging heavily. Andred finally notices a small girl, standing nearby, reach out and touch a fleeing shopper, who is suddenly overcome with rage and runs in to attack the heroes. Andred, heavily weighed down cannot get to the girl in time, and throws his dagger. The girl falls to the ground, her hood falling back to show a nest of vipers in place of her hair. Kadfina breaks free from her attackers and chops the girl down. Shortly thereafter, the shoppers are forced back to their senses. The heroes, uninjured, stand above sobbing, bleeding civilians and the dead body of a mutant girl.
